Thank you for standing with us as we launch this journey to bring real, transparent representation to our communities, villages, and neighborhoods. Whether you are a lifelong resident right here in the Chuckatuck Borough or a supporter backing our vision across the broader region, your voice is the heartbeat of this campaign.

This mission is deeply personal to me. In 1999, following the transition of my father, Ernest Hill Junior, I relocated back home to Suffolk to become a full-time caregiver for my mother, Queen Marie Brinkley Hill. When I arrived, she looked at me with the fierce strength of our ancestors and said: “I don’t need to be taken care of. We have work to do.”

I told her I wanted to be a freedom fighter and an activist, just like them. My mother called the elders, and they filled our living room—dressed in their Sunday best, suits, neckties, and lipstick—to look me in the eye. They told me, "Mary, we hear you want to be a freedom fighter. We need you to go pray on this first. We need you to go pray on these three things: that you never be willing to give up, that you be willing to go to jail, and that you be willing to die—because that is what we had to do."

After two months of constant prayer in my prayer closet with my Creator, the elders returned to that living room. Surrounded by their wisdom, I gave them my sincere answer: Yes. I was ready. I understood that the dying part was not about arrogance, boastfulness, being loud, or jumping in front of a stray bullet. It meant being a spiritual warrior—totally dying to self in order to live entirely for the liberation of the people. My mother always taught me that we were 100% spiritual before we ever became a human or a race, and it is that divine spirit that reunites us back to unconditional love and humanity for one another. It keeps us anchored so we are never pulled down into emotional depression by the shifting conditions of this world.

Through constant prayer, I understand by and by exactly what the elders meant. I am here for the people because I am my brother's keeper. I am here to serve—because that is our ultimate purpose on this Earth: to serve one another, to uplift humanity, to edify, and to help each other. I am deeply guided by the profound words of Reverend Anthony Copeland of the historic Grove Baptist Church here in Suffolk: “Each one, teach one.” We are entirely responsible for each other, and more so for the future generations that have not even been born yet.

So, I am here for you. I am here with you, side by side. I see you, I hear you, and true to that legacy, our campaign is fighting for a clear vision for our future:

• Investing in Infrastructure: Demanding immediate, resilient, and reliable infrastructure upgrades to keep our historic neighborhoods safe, connected, and structurally sound.
• Environmental Preservation and Protecting Our Agriculture: Honoring our legacy as a seventh-generation community of watermen and farmers by defending our beautiful natural resources, preserving our rich farmland, protecting our agricultural way of life, and safeguarding our regional waterways for generations to come.
• Supporting Small Businesses: Standing firmly behind our homegrown small businesses and local economies, ensuring they have the resources, backing, and freedom to thrive.

As we step forward, we lean on the unshakeable Word of God to anchor our mission. We remember the call in Matthew 4:19, when Jesus spoke to the fishermen and said, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men"—a divine reminder of our purpose to give our people the tools to fish, to thrive, and to build up their own lives. And we hold close the wisdom of Proverbs 24:16, which teaches us that though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again. We are here to catch one another, to lift each other up every single time we stumble, and to ensure no neighbor is left behind.
